My 2018 Goals
It’s a new year and it’s time to set some goals and crush them! This year, I have some pretty big goals to accomplish. I set many for 2017 and I did hit some of my goals but I fell short of others.
I figured I would share some of my goals with you. Hopefully, doing this will keep me accountable and I will stick with them throughout the year.
Goal #1: Minimalism
Minimalism is something I’ve always believed in when it comes to design.
This year I’d like to take that and start incorporating it into my real life. If I am being honest we have so much “stuff”. I mean there are seven people who live in this house so the “stuff” is unavoidable.
The problem is we are overflowing with stuff. It’s like there is no organization and half of my problems would go away if we downsized on the number of things we have. (Less stuff = less stuff to take care of)
I’ve started clearing out and throwing away what we don’t use. Next up I plan to donate the kid’s clothes that don’t fit or isn’t needed and hopefully a bit less laundry.
With any luck, by the end of the year, I will have a bit more of an organized house, and less of a headache every day. It’s tough when you consider the amount of cleaning up required for seven people.
Goal #2: Grow Design By Krista
I have always worked as a designer part time but this year I would like to take it up a notch grow my business and go full time. My kiddos are getting older. My twins even started preschool this year so I have a bit more time for client work.
I want to work towards creating a full-time income from this little side hustle I started a few years ago. I have a set income goal I’d like to achieve.
Once I knew my income goal I wanted to reach I was able to break that down into how many clients I needed to book this year at my current rates.
Goal #3: Read More
I used to hate reading! Now that I’ve discovered the knowledge you can gain from reading I don’t want to stop! I’m always searching for new books that will help me run my business and life with ease.
One book that’s been on my mind lately is, “The Creative Truth”! I downloaded the sample from iBooks and so far love it! I plan to order the book from Amazon this week and finish it by February. I’ll let you all know my thoughts when I’m done reading it.
Goal #4: Be More Intentional & Productive With My Time
I want to start doing the stuff that matters. Like, I waste a lot of time… I want to create a better work/life balance and still be productive.
The last few years I can’t count the number of hours I’ve spent working when I wanted to be hanging out with my kids. A lot of that is due to not being intentional with my time. Not doing the stuff that matters when it comes to my business.
I got a spiffy new planner and have started to plan my days. Every day I create three “top priority” goals and the rest I work towards if there is time left over. This allows me to stay productive with my time.
Goal #5: Less Phone – More Family
Okay, I don’t know who else is guilty of this but my iPhone and I are good friends! This happened after I had my three younger kids. I realized that a lot of work like blogging, scheduling social media, etc. could be done from my phone.
Doing this has created a bad habit of ALWAYS working and not having enough time to spend with my family. My phone is always available making it tough to avoid.
With the new year, I went through and deleted a bunch of apps I had so I won’t be as distracted when I’m supposed to be hanging out with my family.
Goal #6: Set & STICK to my office hours
I’ve always had office hours but I never stick to them. You would still find me answering calls, emails, social media at all different hours. I want to be able to work during my set hours and then turn it off giving me the chance to recharge.
No email, no phone calls, and no “work” once the day has ended! I’ve set my hours from 10 am – 6 pm. I get what can be finished in that time and then I end the day.
It’s refreshing to know my workday ends at 6 pm. I’m now able to spend that time relaxing, winding down, and enjoying the little things in life.
Goal #7: Health
I’ve always been into my health. I attempt to make sure I’m getting enough rest, drinking water, and sometimes workout. When I do I feel great! Somehow I always fall out of routine. Not sure if it’s me being lazy or that I chase three toddlers day in and day out, but either way I’m ready to kick it up a notch! My goal is to work out at least 4x’s a week, drink more water, and eat a bit healthier this year.
I’m horrible at setting goals and sticking to them so with any luck this year will be my year! I’ve got a good feeling about it though. The last three years have been a complete whirlwind with the birth of our three children over a period of a year and a half. I finally feel like I’m getting my groove back and I have a bit more time to focus on something other than surviving. Here’s to 2018!
